Media workshop in Kazakhstan for journalists from central Asia

14 – 15 September 2023
Astana, Kazakhstan

Information session for journalists in central Asia on key public health topics and using WHO tools and resources

Join us on 14–15 September 2023 for a 1.5-day media information session on reporting on health for journalists in central Asia. Organized by WHO/Europe, this hybrid session may be attended online or in person in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Registration is open until 11 September 2023.

Good health is not just vital for individuals and society at large, it is also the source of compelling and informative stories that help to shine a light on scientific progress and the human condition. As journalists, you play a vital role in informing the wider public about health, explaining complex science, encouraging healthier behaviours, and leading by example, sharing relevant and timely health information.

WHO, together with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNICEF, has developed an informative and timely workshop for journalists from central Asian countries, ahead of 2 important events taking place in Kazakhstan later in October. These are the Primary health care policy and practice: implementing for better results, which will take place on 23 October 2023, and the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, to be held on 24–26 October 2023.

Why attend the media information session?

Over 1.5 days, you will have the opportunity to:

  • speak to WHO experts and strengthen your understanding of key public health topics, including primary health care; antimicrobial resistance; emergency preparedness response and resilience; health workforce; and refugee and migrant health, in the context of central Asia and the implementation of the Roadmap for health and well-being in central Asia;
  • discuss how to effectively communicate health issues and access WHO and UNICEF tools and resources;
  • meet high-level WHO and UNICEF representatives and build an understanding of their work to deliver health at country, regional and global level; and
  • understand the issues on the agenda at 2 forthcoming events – the International Conference on Primary Health Care and the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe – as well as wider public health issues of relevance to your country and region.

The session will run for 1.5 days, from 14 to 15 September 2023. It will be held in a hybrid format, with journalists able to attend in person in Astana or follow online. Kindly note that travel costs must be covered by the media outlet attending.
