WHO/Europe is organizing this meeting for national poliovirus containment coordinators (NPCCs) and national authorities for containment (NACs) from all 53 Member States to provide technical support and create a forum for sharing of best practices and discussion of common issues and potential challenges related to poliovirus containment implementation at the national level. The following aspects will be addressed:
- the role of the NPCC in implementation of the Global Action Plan for Poliovirus Containment (GAPIV);
- GAPIV and changes introduced in comparison with the previous edition, GAPIII;
- requirements of the Containment Certification Scheme and planned changes;
- inventory process for facilities handling/storing poliovirus infectious/potentially infectious materials;
- poliovirus containment breach management.
Meeting outcomes will include improved communication between WHO and NPCC/NACs, greater understanding of in-country needs and outlining of next steps in the implementation of poliovirus containment activities in each country.
