As the lifespan of Europe’s population extends, promoting healthy ageing becomes paramount. Challenges and opportunities arise, necessitating improved health care, a skilled health and care workforce, age-friendly environments and a collective effort to combat ageism across all sectors.
To explore these issues, WHO/Europe is hosting the Regional Summit for Policy Innovation on Healthy Ageing on 10–11 October. To be held in Lisbon, Portugal, and co-organized with the Directorate General of Health of Portugal, the Summit will bring together government representatives, thought leaders, policy experts, academics, civil society representatives, professional organizations and other partners to drive policy innovation and explore promising practices to address the implications of ageing populations.
Over the course of the 2 days, participants will have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to the following topics:
- creating enabling environments for healthy ageing;
- perspectives on ageing: how we think, feel and act;
- person-centred and integrated long-term care in communities;
- quality care and equity: a blueprint to foster healthy ageing;
- promoting active living and healthy diets;
- the health and care workforce;
- data and monitoring framework for the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing;
- challenging misconceptions that impede effective health financing policies for an ageing population;
- supporting and safeguarding informal caregivers; and
- promoting health and digital literacy.
