In the WHO European Region, 1 in 3 children and 60% of adults are living with overweight and obesity. This contributes to high levels of noncommunicable disease (NCD) morbidity and mortality and threatens to undermine progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
CO-CREATE – using young people’s vision for a healthier future
To halt and reverse this trend, countries need to work with young people to create, inform and disseminate evidence-based obesity prevention policies. This is the central idea behind the EU project “Confronting obesity: Co-creating policy with youth” (CO-CREATE), developed in collaboration between the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of NCDs, and 14 international research and advocacy organizations.
The CO-CREATE project aims to prevent overweight and obesity in adolescents by providing knowledge and tools to support policies that make the healthiest choices the preferred choices.
During the 2-day CO-CREATE final conference, the project's experts will present the results of their 5 years of work, including:
- new research on obesity prevention and youth engagement
- tools for decision-makers
- future perspectives on co-creating policies with youth aimed at preventing obesity.
