BCI training on data collection tool

17 January 2024
Kyiv, Ukraine

Event highlights

14 February 2024

The workshop fostered participants’ understanding of the Behavioural and Cultural Insights (BCI) approach and increased their capacity to use the theoretical model from the Tailoring Health Programmes (THP) approach to design studies and projects.

Around 30 specialists from the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine attended the training. They confirmed the model’s relevance in behavioural change research and intervention development, particularly for antimicrobial resistance work. Participants expressed a need for further practical training on the use of the model, particularly in identifying target behaviours and developing interventions.

To expand on what was covered during the workshop, online resources will be shared with participants, including the LEARN BCI training modules, the THP and the Tailoring Antimicrobial Resistance Programmes (TAP) guides. In addition, targeted training sessions will be planned to address the needs identified in participant feedback.

Event notice

WHO/Europe’s Behavioural and Cultural Insights (BCI) Unit is hosting a training at the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (UPHC) in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 17 January.

Participants include representatives from the antimicrobial resistance and noncommunicable diseases departments of the UPHC.

The 2-hour workshop aims to equip participants with the skills to conduct effective BCI studies and follows WHO/Europe’s Tailoring Health Programmes (THP) approach, used to identify possible barriers and drivers of behaviours related to health topics. The training includes an introduction to a theoretical model that can be used for structuring these barriers and drivers, which has proved useful for collecting and synthesizing data, as well as analysing them.

Through hands-on exercises, participants will receive practical guidance on designing data collection tools and analysis frameworks.
