Primary health-care (PHC) workers play a central role in maintaining public trust in vaccination, including addressing the concerns of caregivers and patients. Therefore, it is important that they are well-educated and knowledgeable in building vaccine confidence. This includes being aware of specific and serious risks of vaccine-preventable diseases, explaining possible side-effects of vaccines, as well as how adverse events are managed. Additionally, they should be skilled in responding to concerns, with approaches such as motivational interviewing, which fosters trust and helps move people closer to acceptance. Health workers who are knowledgeable about evidence-based communication strategies are an important part of implementing a successful vaccination program. They are key to building vaccine confidence among the public through their communication that vaccination is safe and effective.

In the upcoming episode of the "Let's Talk PHC" talk show, our expert guests will emphasize the importance of utilizing PHC to build vaccine confidence as an effective response to vaccine hesitancy. Focusing on experiences and research conducted at the country level, the panellists will highlight the crucial role played by PHC workers as the most trusted sources of information on vaccination. What can they do to help build vaccine confidence among the public? How can PHC systems better support health workers so that their positive influence on the public is maximized?
