The work of the WHO Primary Health Care (PHC) Demonstration Platform has officially begun in Spain – in Madrid, the Asturias region and beyond. This marks the third WHO PHC Demonstration Platform launched in the WHO European Region. Since the first were launched in Kazakhstan and Sweden in 2022, this initiative has proven to be an excellent tool for exchanging experiences among countries and transforming PHC.
Spain has a strong PHC model rooted in the Alma-Ata Declaration, with over 40 years of innovation and leadership. Its decentralized governance system and diverse initiatives make it ideal for showcasing PHC best practices. Spain's global recognition as a PHC leader underscores its suitability for hosting the Platform. The first country to visit the Platform in Spain will be Czechia.
With the Ministry of Health of Spain, the WHO European Centre for Primary Health Care will co-host the high-level launch of the Platform and a moderated panel discussion during a special episode of the “Let’s Talk PHC” talk show.
