The WHO European Healthy Cities Network is pleased to invite you to a thematic webinar on the role of arts in health and well-being. This event will explore how arts can contribute to healthy behaviours, well-being enhancement, and illness treatment across the life course, with a special focus on city initiatives. This perspective is supported by a 2019 scoping review published by WHO/Europe, which has sparked awareness of the positive impacts of arts and culture on health throughout the Region.
Specific objectives of the webinar include:
- discussing the potential impact of arts on health and well-being in cities to encourage cities and national networks to foster arts engagement at local and national level;
- sharing research and case studies from the newly redesignated Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments – University of the West of England, Bristol, and members of the European Healthy Cities Network; and
- supporting the development of collaborations between the health sector and the arts community to maximize the health benefits of arts engagement through a Healthy Cities Network working group.
Expected outcomes include:
- increased awareness: enhanced understanding of the significance of arts in promoting health and well-being;
- knowledge-sharing: insights from practical examples and case studies shared by experts and network members; and
- networking opportunities: connections made between participants to foster future collaborations through a working group.
The webinar will feature the following speakers:
- Michael Buser, Associate Professor, WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments – University of the West of England;
- Nils Fietje, Technical Officer, Behavioural and Cultural Insights Unit, WHO Regional Office for Europe;
- Nicola Holt, Associate Professor, University of the West of England; and
- members of the European Healthy Cities Network.
