WHO to conduct simulation exercise management course for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

The WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan with the support of WHO/Europe is organizing a simulation exercise (SimEx) management training course in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for national government partners, with participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. This training course is designed to strengthen national emergency preparedness by providing participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively plan, design and manage simulation exercises using WHO SimEx methodology. The course is supported through the Pandemic Fund.

About the course

Simulation exercises are a critical component of emergency preparedness, allowing stakeholders to test and refine their response mechanisms in line with the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005). This course introduces the WHO SimEx methodology, offering hands-on experience in planning, scenario development, facilitation, evaluation and reporting.

Who will attend?

This training is intended for professionals involved in national emergency preparedness, including:

  • officials from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Veterinary Service and Ministry of Agriculture responsible for conducting and managing simulation exercises;
  • professionals involved in the implementation of the IHR (2005) and National Action Plan for Health Security;
  • personnel working to strengthening emergency response coordination and preparedness efforts;
  • WHO country office staff engaged in health emergencies and supporting IHR core capacities.

Course highlights

The course will feature:

  • an introduction to WHO SimEx methodology;
  • hands-on experience in scenario development and exercise management;
  • practical group exercises and real-time simulations;
  • development of national health simulation exercise frameworks.

Around 50 professionals from the health, animal health and emergency sectors will gain valuable insights into designing, executing and evaluating simulation exercises that enhance national preparedness and response capabilities. Nominees are expected to complete an online simulation exercise module before the course to establish a common knowledge base.
