For the second time, Tajikistan has volunteered to undertake a Joint External Evaluation (JEE) of its implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR, 2005). The JEE mission, which will take place on 14–18 July 2025 in Dushanbe, will bring together 15 international technical experts from multiple countries, technical institutions and international organizations, which in dialogue with national experts will evaluate Tajikistan’s capacity to prevent, detect and rapidly respond to public health threats.
A JEE is a voluntary, collaborative, multisectoral process to assess country capacities to manage public health risks, whether occurring naturally or due to deliberate or accidental events. The JEE helps countries identify the most critical gaps within their human and animal health systems in order to prioritize opportunities for enhanced preparedness and response. During the JEE mission, recommendations will be developed to support Tajikistan to strengthen health emergency preparedness and response capacities.
The JEE is facilitated by WHO and is an important part of WHO’s support to Member States to better prepare for, prevent, detect and respond to outbreaks and other health emergencies. WHO remains a strong partner of the Government of Tajikistan in advancing national and global health security, protecting vulnerable populations, and helping to keep the world safe.
Tajikistan conducted its first JEE in 2019, and will be the third of 55 States Parties to the IHR (2005) in the WHO European Region to conduct a second JEE.
The second JEE conducted in Tajikistan is supported by the Pandemic Fund, a multistakeholder partnership developed by the World Bank in close collaboration with WHO and other partners. The Pandemic Fund supports the 5 Central Asian countries in the European Region in mounting a regional response to shared and emerging threats to public health and food security.
