Joint Meeting of the Nordic Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Group and the Regional EMT Steering Committee (RSC)

18 – 19 September 2025
Copenhagen, Denmark

A joint meeting of the Nordic Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Group and the Regional EMT Steering Committee (RSC) will be convened to advance regional collaboration and capacity-building in alignment with the strategic objectives of the WHO EMT Initiative and the EMT Regional Action Plan 2024–2030. Representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden will participate in this important forum.

The meeting will review progress, 1 year since Member States adopted the EMT Regional Action Plan and emphasize the integration of EMT capacities into health systems at country level as a means of strengthening national preparedness and health security. It will also examine the EMT Initiative’s role as a bridge between national health security and international solidarity, reflecting its contribution to both regional resilience and global cooperation.

Deliberations will highlight subregional collaboration as a model for reinforcing the EMT community of practice, drawing on engagement with other networks and diverse sectors including health, civil protection, defence and nongovernmental organizations, including the Red Cross. Delegates will share lessons learned from EMT deployments and exchange experiences on integration with national health services, as well as on training, mentorship and twinning initiatives.

Further discussion will address opportunities for collaboration with academia and research institutions, contributions to the development of EMT standards, and the evolving role of the Nordic EMT Group in the digital transformation of the EMT Initiative. The meeting also reaffirms the Nordic EMT Group’s commitment to the second WHO European Programme of Work and to advancing the Preparedness 2.0 agenda.
