Azerbaijan celebrates WHO’s 75th anniversary

The WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan recently marked the Organization’s 75th anniversary with a series of activities and events showcasing WHO achievements and engaging the local community. The celebrations brought together medical professionals, partners and international guests, highlighting the Organization’s vital role in promoting global health.

To mark WHO’s 75th anniversary and World Health Day, the country office organized an interactive session at Azerbaijan Medical University.

Over 200 medical students listened to Dr Hande Harmanci, WHO Representative in Azerbaijan, deliver a presentation highlighting WHO’s mission and ongoing activities, as well as opportunities for collaboration.

National and international partners, diplomatic missions, donors and United Nations agencies attended a reception to celebrate WHO’s 75th anniversary and recognize the Organization’s achievements both locally and internationally.

The event included an educational quiz and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. It served as a platform for building collaboration in support of global, regional and national health initiatives.

Recognizing the connection between the arts and health, the country office arranged a performance of the acclaimed Azerbaijan State Orchestra of Folk Instruments as part of the activities complementing WHO/Europe’s regional meeting on hospitals.

The concert showcased a fusion of Azerbaijani and world music, captivating the audience and offering foreign guests a delightful glimpse into the country’s vibrant cultural heritage.

A photo exhibition highlighting WHO initiatives implemented throughout Azerbaijan

The country office launched a dynamic quiz on Facebook to harness social media for health awareness. The quiz aimed to promote WHO’s history and activities, as well as its significant contributions to the country.

Participants shared their enthusiasm for WHO, and winners received small gifts as a token of appreciation for their engagement.
