Member States receive awards for contribution to NCD prevention and control

At the third United Nations General Assembly High-level Meeting on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), held in New York on 27 September 2018, the United Nations Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (UNIATF) presented awards to those making outstanding contributions to NCD prevention and control. This was assessed in terms of both multisectoral action and getting countries on track to achieve NCD-related Sustainable Development Goals. Nominations were invited for individuals and organizations in 3 categories:

  • ministries of health
  • ministries outside health
  • United Nations country teams.

Of the 27 awards given, 5 were for individuals and organizations in the WHO European Region.

UNIATF is the body that coordinates the activities of relevant United Nations organizations and other intergovernmental organizations to support governments to meet high-level commitments to respond to NCD epidemics worldwide.
