Ministry of Health of Turkey receives award for NCD prevention and control

This year, the Ministry of Health of Turkey received an award from the United Nations Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (UNIATF) in recognition of its dedicated efforts in prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The Ministry’s achievements include the development of:

  • a new multisectoral and multistakeholder action plan on NCDs, 2017–2025
  • a new multisectoral programme for ending childhood obesity
  • an updated national tobacco control action plan.

The award was presented to the President of Turkey, Recep Erdoğan, by WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the 25 September at their bilateral meeting.

UNIATF is the body that coordinates the activities of relevant United Nations organizations and other intergovernmental organizations to support governments to meet high-level commitments to respond to NCD epidemics worldwide.
