WHO/Europe organized and facilitated a face-to-face meeting of the regional Green Light Committee for Europe (European rGLC) on 3-4 September 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to discuss ways to further improve the scale-up of programmatic management of drug-resistant tuberculosis (PMDT) in the WHO European Region.

The meeting focused on strategic and effective technical support to countries, optimization of collaboration with partners such as Global Fund, identification of synergies with the new Global Fund funding model and discussion of rational and effective use of new second-line tuberculosis (TB) drugs in order to boost prevention and control of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Members of the European rGLC participated in the meeting and were joined by colleagues from the Global Fund and via Webex by WHO headquarters and the Stop TB Partnership.

This meeting built on regularly held and organized virtual meetings during which overall aspects of PMDT are presented and discussed. The key outputs of this meeting were:

  • a draft country-specific PMDT technical assistance plan;
  • a new GLC/Europe reporting format; and
  • recommendations to strengthen capacity of the Member States in PMDT.

In addition, the chair and vice-chair of the Green Light Committee for Europe were re-elected.
