Training on data triangulation for immunization programme improvement in Tajikistan
Dushanbe , Tajikistan
Despite achieving high immunization coverage in Tajikistan, challenges persist in addressing inequities and preventing disease outbreaks. This training is designed to enhance the analytical skills and critical thinking capacity of immunization managers and surveillance officers to identify inequity in immunization and develop data-driven plans of action to strengthen the national immunization programme.
Event highlights
More than 30 immunization programme managers from the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, representing both national and subnational levels, participated in a 4-day training workshop aimed at strengthening analytical skills and data use for decision-making in immunization.
The training focused on data triangulation to identify inequities in immunization coverage and critical thinking on data interpretation and use as a key approach in informing targeted action. Participants received guidance on the use of WHO tools and methodologies, including the WHO/Europe guide for addressing immunization inequities, surveillance and vaccination coverage data analysis, and practical approaches to data triangulation for equity-focused immunization programme strengthening.
Interactive hands-on sessions complemented the presentations, enabling participants to apply concepts to data and enhance their capacity to make data-driven action plans in their daily work.
According to a post-training survey, 97% of participants expressed satisfaction with the workshop. All respondents found the content relevant to their work, and after the training, 69% reported feeling very confident – and 31% somewhat confident – about applying data triangulation techniques in their roles. Participants also highlighted the practical relevance of the training and its usefulness in improving programme performance.
Strengthening data use for action
This training is part of WHO/Europe’s ongoing support to Member States under the European Immunization Agenda 2030, which emphasizes data-enabled decision-making, tailored local strategies and accountability in immunization systems. By building the capacity of national health authorities and the immunization workforce, WHO/Europe aims to support countries in identifying and addressing inequities, developing evidence-based action plans and monitoring progress to ensure equitable access to immunization services for all.
Event notice
Despite achieving high immunization coverage in Tajikistan, challenges persist in addressing inequities and preventing disease outbreaks. This training is designed to enhance the analytical skills and critical thinking capacity of immunization managers and surveillance officers to identify inequity in immunization and develop data-driven plans of action to strengthen the national immunization programme.
The overall aim of the training is to build the capacity of national and subnational staff in using multiple data sources to identify programmatic gaps and develop tailored subnational action plans to address immunity gaps and accelerate control and elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Targeted at immunization managers from the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis and surveillance officers from the Sanitary Epidemiological Service, this training will cover both national and subnational levels.
In line with WHO guidance on addressing inequities in immunization and achieving measles and rubella elimination, the training will include presentations, interactive sessions and practical exercises covering the following key areas:
- standard analysis of immunization coverage data and vaccine-preventable disease surveillance data
- triangulation of multiple data sources to support immunization planning and evaluation
- incorporating vaccine demand-related data in routine immunization programme management.
Small group consultations will be offered to participants, providing an opportunity to address individual data analysis challenges in their daily work.
