Kyrgyzstan will host a Joint Risk Assessment (JRA) workshop in Bishkek from 3 to 5 June 2025, bringing together national and international experts to conduct a JRA of zoonotic diseases using a multisectoral One Health approach.

This workshop builds on the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization workshop held in June 2023, where stakeholders identified the 10 most significant infectious diseases of concern in Kyrgyzstan. The prioritization process ensured equal representation from the human health, animal health (including domestic and wildlife sectors) and environmental health sectors.

The upcoming JRA workshop will focus on 4 priority zoonotic diseases: brucellosis, echinococcosis, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever and zoonotic influenza. It will apply the standardized 10-step methodology of the JRA Operational Tool developed by WHO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) to qualitatively assess and manage risks while reinforcing cross-sectoral coordination.

Supported by experts from the WHO Regional Office for Europe and WOAH, the workshop will equip decision-makers and technical specialists with practical tools to strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s preparedness and response capacity against zoonotic disease threats.

The next step following the JRA will be to apply its outcomes to improve the implementation of the One Health approach in Kyrgyzstan.
