Antimicrobial resistance surveillance in the WHO European Region 2024: data 2023
Overview
The tenth CAESAR report offers a detailed analysis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the WHO European Region using 2023 data from 15 countries and territories. It also incorporates data from the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), managed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, providing a comprehensive overview of AMR in the Region. This report covers the status of AMR coordination and surveillance across the entire Region, including data from both CAESAR and EARS-Net networks. It presents the results of the 2023 CAESAR external quality assessment (EQA) exercise and summarizes the ten EQA rounds conducted from 2013 to 2023. As in past editions, a reader’s guide is included to support careful interpretation of surveillance data, considering issues of reliability and representativeness. WHO and its partners remain committed to strengthening AMR surveillance through the CAESAR network, promoting international data sharing and assisting countries, areas and territories in developing and enhancing their AMR surveillance systems.
