How to equity proof your policies and interventions: a resource guide for planners and policy makers to leave no-one behind

Overview

This toolkit provides complementary resources to the Health Equity Status Report Initiative. It offers user-friendly guidance on developing inclusive, participatory approaches to policy-making that reaches groups that are not represented in the available data. Employing these tools can help to ensure that services respond to the needs of people living in vulnerable conditions or experiencing marginalization, improve the sustainability of interventions, and contribute to health equity via a gender-responsive and human rights-based approach. The tools are adaptable to the unique challenges of each country and comprise:

• Guiding principles for addressing vulnerability;
• An action framework that offers practical guidance and resources to ensure social participation throughout the policy process;
• Digital spaces: an innovative complement to other participation approaches;
• The lived experience of vulnerable conditions: evidence for action, a synthesis of lived experience stories; and
• a Checklist for engaging communities in health policy and service development and evaluation.
