Third meeting of the European Region Laboratory Task Force for emerging and re-emerging pathogens: Izmir, Türkiye 23–24 May 2023: report

Overview

The WHO Regional Office for Europe held the third meeting of the European Regional Laboratory Task Force (‎Lab Task Force)‎ for emerging and re-emerging pathogens in Izmir, Türkiye on 23–24 May 2023. The meeting featured seven sessions with presentations and discussion on: 

• the prioritization of pathogens for better preparedness;
• the public health laboratory recognition programme for pathogens with epidemic and pandemic potential;
• procurement solutions for specific tests, focusing on Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever and Ebola virus disease;
• the laboratory sustainability assessment checklist;
• national genomic strategies and the sequencing costing tool;
• transport legislation; and
• networking.
