The Amsterdam conclusions: mental health and well-being in prisons and other detention centres – Amsterdam, Netherlands (Kingdom of the), 18–19 April 2024
Overview
Recognizing that one third of people living in prisons have mental health disorders, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, together with its partners and national focal points, identified this topic as a priority area and initiated the organization of a conference aimed at catalysing dialogue, sharing solutions, and reinforcing the imperative that prison health is an integral part of public health. The 2024 International Prison Health Conference was held on 18–19 April in Amsterdam, Netherlands (Kingdom of the), and was co-hosted by the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology, the Dutch Custodial Agency, the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security and the World Health Organization European Regional Office. This document presents the salient conclusions reached during the 2024 International Prison Health Conference “Mental health and wellbeing in detention centres: prisons health is public health.”
