WHO’s response to health emergencies in Ukraine: annual report 2024

Overview

In its third year, the state of war in Ukraine continues to disrupt the lives of more than 3.6 million internally displaced persons and 6.7 million refugees, and severely impact the country’s health systems. The war has severely disrupted access to care for people with chronic and infectious diseases, elevated the risk of disease outbreaks, and left millions facing mental health challenges and physical trauma. Since the start of the full-scale war in 2022, WHO has worked alongside the Ministry of Health and partners to deliver essential health services, particularly in frontline regions. WHO’s response has focused on maintaining emergency and primary care services, improving response coordination and supporting inclusive outreach to ensure that no community is left behind. This report presents WHO’s achievements in 2024 and demonstrates how WHO, and its health partners, have continued to support the delivery of critical health-care services in Ukraine, while supporting efforts to build a sustainable and resilient health-care system.
