Risk Communication, Community Engagement and Infodemic Management (RCI) Unit
The Risk Communication, Community Engagement and Infodemic Management (RCI) Unit belongs to WHO/Europe’s Health Emergencies Programme. Its vision is a WHO European Region where people and stakeholders are enabled and empowered to take informed decisions that protect them from health emergencies.
RCI has proven expertise, deep experience, and a unique position in managing risk communication, community engagement and infodemic management (RCCE-IM) in health and humanitarian emergencies. The Unit established the first WHO RCCE-IM Technical Advisory Group positioning RCCE-IM as an evidence-based area of work across the emergency cycle with the preparedness, readiness, response and recovery phases. This cycle outlines a continuous process to prevent and mitigate the impact of health hazards.
With trusted relationships across diverse countries, stakeholders and partners, RCI leverages this broad experience to address vulnerabilities and increase resilience throughout the Region. It does so by offering the following services:
- technical support for RCCE-IM interventions across the emergency cycle;
- capacity-building through an innovative set of platforms and tools, including the RCCE-IM School, RCCE-IM Plan Creator and RCCE-IM Capacity Map;
- a library of science-driven guidance documents, tools, resources, case studies and best practices; and
- evidence generation and sharing and advocacy on RCCE-IM’s role and impacts to underpin policy-making.
