Urban health capacities assessment and response: implementing food safety in Suva, Fiji

Overview

Assessing and using capacities that create synergies across sectors and levels of governance can significantly improve urban health and well-being. The Urban health capacities assessment and response resource kit comprises a Primer and an accompanying Action Guide which describe these capacities in detail a provide a step-by-step process for facilitators implementing capacity assessments with stakeholders involved with urban health. Training videos show them being used. The Resource Kit also comprises a series of City examples, which illustrate the breadth of urban health goals that have already been used to improve urban health goals. They describe the practical experiences of particular cities that have used these tools to support their efforts to improve urban health. This City example describes how a multisectoral team in Suva, Fiji, used the Resource Kit to support work to make Suva a “food safe city”, through enhanced regulation and monitoring of street food businesses.
