The FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on
Pesticide Management (JMPM) works as an advisory body to FAO and WHO on the
lifecycle management of pesticides in agriculture and public health. It
supports the development of guidance documents, leveraging its technical
expertise to facilitate the implementation of individual articles from the
International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management. They also advise the Organizations on policies,
guidance and key actions to support Member States on sound management of
pesticides.
The JMPM was constituted and
held its first session in 2007, following the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding between FAO and WHO on cooperation in a joint programme for the
sound management of pesticides. It is expected that UNEP will also join this
joint programme soon.
The FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on
Pesticide Management (JMPM) comprises expert panel members appointed by both
FAO and WHO. Panel Members are internationally recognized specialists with
expertise and experience in the lifecycle management of pesticides used in
agriculture and public health. They do not represent the position of the
governments or institutions they may belong to but are appointed to the Panels
in their personal capacity.
