UN Road Safety Collaboration membership application

Membership criteria

All candidates seeking to participate in the Collaboration must meet the following criteria:

In addition, applications by non-state actors are assessed for possible conflicts of interest and reputational issues.

Membership application

Organizations wishing to apply for UNRSC membership are requested to submit a formal membership request letter addressing the following:

  • The organization’s mission, structure, funding sources, and governance;
  • The organization’s work in road safety at global level - beyond just one country, preferably multiple countries or a region if not global (the UNRSC terms of reference require active involvement in the field of road safety internationally);
  • A statement that the organization endorses the vision, goals and objectives of the UNRSC as articulated in its Terms of reference;
  • A commitment to actively collaborate in at least one of the UNRSC's activities and an indication of how specific activities will be supported;
  • A commitment to self-fund participation to meetings twice a year (please note that there are no travel funds for participants);
  • An indication of who will be the Focal Person for the UNRSC meetings (as all correspondence will be directed to this one person).

This letter should be addressed to the Chair of the UNRSC.

Applications made by non-state actors (private sector, NGO, academic institutions or philanthropic institutions) should be in addition accompanied with the following:

The application letter, and additional documents requested for non-state actors, should be sent to the following email address unrsc@who.int.

Timeline for review and next steps

Upon reception of a complete application package, the review of the application by the Secretariat takes about 6 weeks.

After this delay, the Secretariat communicates to the applicant its position regarding the advancement of the candidature.

Applications advanced by the Secretariat are then subject to approval by consensus by participants at the Collaboration meetings.
