Objective of the programme
The mission of the WHO Emergencies Program (The Programme) is to help countries, and to coordinate international action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of the Head of Sub-Office in WHO Cox’s Bazar emergency Sub-office and direct supervision of the Public Health Officer, the incumbent will be the focal for Healthcare Waste Management, as well as broader environmental health activities in the camps and host communities. The Officer shall be responsible for undertaking following responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise for Health Care Waste Management and related technical areas, identify priorities, evaluate gaps and develop action plans to support emergency response.
- Monitor and report progress on Healthcare Waste Management as well as broader environmental health activities (including WASH) within the health facilities in the context of the incident management system.
- Support comprehensive environmental health related assessments, including WASH assessment in health facilities, water quality assessments and propose action plans for improvement.
- Provide support to the health partners on Health Care Waste Management, including WASH, proactively co-design and support the implementation of plans to build up or rehabilitate emergency health facilities.
- Provide support for implementation of Infection Prevention and control activities for the health facilities, and especially during emergencies and outbreaks.
- Support training and conduct of Water and Sanitation for Health Facility Improvement Tool (WASH FIT), which includes Health Care Waste Management, in health facilities in compliance with Sphere and WHO Standards.
- Participate as a resource person in training/orientation programmes in the related areas for capacity building and organize such programmes as required.
- Ensure timely and technically correct implementation of WHO HCWM projects as assigned by the functional supervisor
- Ensure smooth collaboration with operational partners (including Government, UN, INGOs, NGOs and other actors) for timely and sustainable implementation of activities.
- Perform any other related duties, as required by the functional supervisor.
