Objective of the programme 

The objective of the WHO Bangladesh Country Office is to implement the Country Cooperation Strategy by supporting the Bangladesh Government in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of national health policies, strategies, and plans and developing and managing WHO's technical cooperation programme. This position is based on WHO's strategic priority one of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The focus of this position is to support the implementation of the Bangladesh National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)Containment, including reporting through the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS).

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Assist in coordination among MoHFW, government counterparts, development partners, and WHO Country, Regional and HQ offices for AMR-related activities, guided by the National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance Containment.

2. Collaborate with partners including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) in a ‘One Health approach to promoting best practices, including optimal use of antibiotics in both humans and animals.

3. Ensure timely implementation and reporting of AMR activities within country workplans.

4. Prepare SOPs, guidelines, and strategic documents related to AMR, in consultation with key stakeholders.

5. Support training activities related to AMR.

6. Participate in the development of proposals for donor assistance and partnership agreements and coordinate assistance received from donors and development partners.

7. Prepare reports to donors on AMR programme / project implementation.

8. Liaise with WHO staff, consultants, and SSA's supporting CDC, DGDA, and IEDCR for implementation of AMR activities.

9. Assist in documentation of meetings of the WHO Country Office technical committee for coordination of AMR activities.

10. Support the generation and strengthening of AMR data to inform decision-making.

11. Assist in monitoring and supervision of AMR field-based activities.

12. Support procurement of supplies, equipment, and services for AMR activities with implementing partners and government counterparts.

13. Prepare activity and project reports on activities related to AMR.

14. Take part in scientific writing.

15. Collaborate with other staff (as appropriate) to prepare reports, develop materials and official communications and fulfill project information sharing responsibilities; and

16. Any other activities assigned by supervisor.
