Objective of the programme
In close collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh, WHO Country Office works towards prioritizing NCDs including injuries and mental health on the health and development agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and related global targets to which Member States have committed. Key areas for action in Bangladesh include addressing the social and commercial determinants of health, which requires engaging with multiple sectors beyond health. The staff will engage with health sector, and relevant sectors outside of health, to support policies and programs to address road safety, injuries, disability and rehabilitation and promote health through healthy lifestyles including healthy diets and physical activity.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of the Medical Officer (NCD) and direct supervision of National Professional Officer (NCD) the incumbent will perform following task:
- Provide technical assistance to the government and other partners in strengthening road safety, with special focus on policies and post-crash response
- Engage with relevant sectors in facilitating policies and programs to promote healthy diet and physical activity
- Support government and other partners to undertake initiatives to prevent and manage injuries, with special focus on drowning prevention
- Coordinate with government and partners to integrate disability related services in primary care and design disabled-friendly health services
- Facilitate access to Assistive technology and integration of rehabilitation services in primary care and
- Engage stakeholders across sectors, including civil society, in dialogue and advocacy for action on NCD risk factors
- Submit assignment report at the end of the contract.
