Objective of the programme
The Scaling Up Nutrition, or SUN, Movement was launched in 2010 in response to the continuing high rates of global malnutrition. SUN is a unique global political Movement founded on the principle that all people have a right to food and good nutrition. SUN unites people - from governments, civil society, the United Nations (UN), donors, businesses, and researchers - in a collective effort to improve nutrition. More information can be found on the website www.scalingupnutrition.org.
Within the SUN Movement, national leaders are prioritizing efforts to address undernutrition. Countries are putting appropriate policies in place, collaborating with partners to implement programmes with shared nutrition goals, and mobilizing resources to effectively scale up nutrition, with a core focus on empowering women. The goals address immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition and aim to meet the global targets established by the 2012 World Health Assembly.
