Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO)

The Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, together with the Institute of Health Equity, developed a Regional Commission on the Social Determinants of Health, which published its report in 2021. The regional office has since run workshops to disseminate the recommendations of the Regional Commission on Social Determinants of Health. During 2023–2025, the regional office developed a practical tool to assist planning for the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations in countries across the region.

The regional office is poised in 2025 to support a post-crisis implementation focus in local areas in the occupied Palestinian territory, for rebuilding post-war, and in Morocco, for rebuilding following the earthquake in Marrakesh-Safi. These initiatives will also aim to integrate the “World Report on the Social Determinants of Health Equity” into the roll-out of the regional tool for developing and supporting Health in All Policies to address the social determinants of health and health equity.
