WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health
Cambodia became the 10th country globally and the 2nd in the Western Pacific Region to join the WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health in 2025. The Royal Government of Cambodia, in collaboration with WHO and partners, is now developing its national SIMH action plan. The plan focuses on strengthening service delivery, investing in the health workforce, and building resilient health systems to expand access to quality mental health care.

In Cambodia, access to mental health care remains limited. In a country with over 17 million people, there were only 130 psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses as of 2022.
