28–31 August 2023, Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan
Eleven skilled facilitators from Kyrgyzstan are set to deliver the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme (GLLP), guiding participants through the curriculum while providing invaluable mentoring for their thesis work.
In support of this collaborative effort, WHO/Europe will deliver a training session on 28–31 August in Cholpon-Ata in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan to empower the facilitators with comprehensive expertise in all areas of the GLLP curriculum. This will include refining the agendas for upcoming face-to-face sessions and finalizing thesis subjects for the participants.
During this inaugural year in Kyrgyzstan, 2 focal areas have been identified as priorities: management, and biosafety and biosecurity. The subsequent 7 competencies are planned for delivery in 2024.
Background
The GLLP provides participants with 9 essential competencies that are crucial for effective laboratory leadership, facilitating the establishment and management of sustainable national laboratory systems.
The GLLP was launched in June 2023 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where the Programme welcomed a cohort of 15 carefully selected participants. These individuals were drawn from diverse laboratories spanning public health, veterinary and environmental health sectors, aligned under the umbrella of the One Health approach.
