A large-scale fire safety drill took place on 6 March 2025 at the Republican Scientific Center of Urology in Bishkek, bringing together medical staff, emergency responders and key stakeholders to test and refine fire response protocols.
The exercise aimed to improve the hospital’s emergency preparedness, ensuring swift and effective evacuation procedures in case of fire. Staff from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Emergency Situations, law enforcement agencies and other municipal services joined the simulation exercise, alongside representatives from the WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan, led by WHO Representative Dr Liviu Vedrasco.
Dr Vedrasco commended the high level of preparedness demonstrated during the exercise, emphasizing the critical role of regular simulation exercises in strengthening emergency response capacity. “It is encouraging to see WHO’s systematic capacity-building training and simulations contribute to better coordination and response in medical institutions, ultimately safeguarding both patients and health-care workers,” he stated.
The simulation exercise underscored the importance of continuous collaboration between health-care facilities and emergency services, reinforcing readiness for potential fire incidents in medical settings.
