The Global Health Learning Centre (GHLC) 2025 officially began with the launch of Module A on Monday, 16 June 2025. This two-week virtual module marks the first step of an intensive three-month programme designed to strengthen the leadership, management, and technical competencies of mid-level government health officials across the Western Pacific Region.
Module A serves as the foundation of the GHLC journey, offering structured orientation and early capacity-building to prepare fellows for the in-person and follow-up phases of the programme. The module includes:
- Introduction to the GHLC 2025 curriculum and group project planning
- Development of concept notes for group project
The opening session featured motivating and inspiring remarks from Dr Kidong Park, Director of the Division of Data, Strategy and Innovation (DSI) at WHO WPRO. Dr Park emphasized the critical importance of leadership development in today’s complex global health environment, encouraging fellows to be bold, reflective, and collaborative in their learning journey. Ms Sunju Lee, Acting Coordinator of the Capacity and Leadership Strengthening (CAL) Unit, introduced the overarching vision and structure of GHLC 2025, highlighting the programme’s competency-based approach and the role of the group project in translating learning into practical action. Fellows are also guided on how to conceptualize their ideas and experience into a group project.
The fellows, representing a diverse range of countries and experiences, showed remarkable enthusiasm from the outset. Their active engagement and curiosity during the initial sessions reflect a strong commitment to making the most of the GHLC experience and contributing meaningfully to health system improvements in their respective countries.
With Module A now successfully completed, the GHLC team and faculty commend the fellows for their active participation and are excited to continue building on this strong foundation in the upcoming modules.
