Nagarkot, Bagmati province - The Ministry of Health and Population, in collaboration with WHO Nepal, held a two-day consultative workshop from 15–16 July to revisit Nepal’s National Pandemic Preparedness and Response Plan (NPPRP). Over 35 participants from relevant ministries and departments engaged in discussions on lessons from past pandemics and gaps in the 2019 plan. This marks the beginning of an inclusive, multi-sectoral effort to strengthen health security, enhance early detection and rapid response capacities, and reduce the socio-economic impact of future pandemics. The updated NPPRP will align with global frameworks, including the International Health Regulations (2005) and the Pandemic Agreement (2025). It will address emerging health risks, national priorities and incorporate approaches like the Preparedness and Resilience to Emerging Threats (PRET) initiatives. WHO Nepal will now provide technical support for the consolidation of all inputs received during the workshop; facilitate expert consultations to finalize the revised plan; and advocate for, and mobilize, resources for its implementation. This activity was supported by the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Fund under the Global Influenza Programme.
