Announcement – Introductory course on standard practice (GxP) available for the biomanufacturing workforce

31 August 2022
Call for proposals

Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) face significant inequity in terms of access to vaccines and other biologics and are making efforts to establish biological manufacturing in their regions. Establishing such manufacturing capacity, through bilateral technology transfer or through local R&D efforts is frequently hampered by the lack of a workforce that is trained in biomanufacturing.

To address this gap and to build the biomanufacturing capacity in LMICs, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Korea (MOHWK) are working towards establishing the first of a kind Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing, which will provide training in manufacturing of high-quality vaccines and biologics in an industrial setting to contribute to resolve inequality in access to vaccines and biologics worldwide by expanding manufacturing capacity in LMICs.

In the meantime, introductory training programmes on biomanufacturing operated by the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in Seoul, Republic of Korea are being offered to interested parties.

The 1sttraining took place in July 2022, for more than 100 participants from 33 LMICs. A second course focusing on standard practice (GxP) in biomanufacturing is planned for October 2022 to accommodate 200 trainees from LMICs.
