Call for health side events at COP28 (closed)

20 July 2023
Call for proposals

COP28 UN Climate Conference, 30 November - 12 December 2023, Dubai, UAE

COP28 Health Pavilion (Deadline for applications: 15 September 2023)

WHO and Wellcome Trust are pleased to announce they will again be hosting a dedicated Health Pavilion at COP.

COP28 Health Pavilion will convene the global health and climate community and key stakeholders across various sectors to ensure health and equity are placed at the centre of climate negotiations and help drive bold climate action. It will offer a rich 2-week programme of events showcasing evidence, initiatives and solutions to maximize the health benefits of tackling climate change across regions, sectors and communities.

The Health Pavilion will be located in the Blue Zone of Expo City Dubai. The Blue Zone will be accessible only for participants accredited by UNFCCC (more information is available on the UNFCCC website).

At the same time, WHO and Wellcome are supporting the COP28 UAE Presidency in identifying partners to contribute to the COP28 Health Programme and the first-ever COP28 Health Day on December 3 – including events in the Green Zone (where no accreditation is required).

If you wish to host a side event at the Health Pavilion, or be part of the COP28 Health Day, please express your interest via the online form below. More information on the priority thematic areas and key design principles and selection criteria can be found here.

Given the limited number of time slots, we highly recommend submitting only one application per organization and encourage proposals for merged side events that include different perspectives, actors and agencies – including from beyond the health sector. For this reason, we are also likely to propose to merge or shift the focus of some proposals and are unlikely to be able to accept all proposals.

COP28 Health Programme

The Health Programme will be focusing on the following 5 key topics:

  • Health impacts of climate change
  • Health benefits of climate mitigation
  • Climate resilient low-carbon health systems
  • Adaptation for health
  • Action for health, relief, recovery & peace.

More information coming soon.
