Call for public consultation – R&D roadmap for paramyxovirus medical countermeasures

1 April 2026
Call for consultation

In 2024, the WHO R&D Blueprint team established the Collaborative Open Research Consortia (CORCs) to overcome fragmented and largely reactive research efforts for priority pathogens. CORCs create coordinated, cross-disciplinary global networks that bring together academia, public health, and industry to align research agendas and share data. They operationalize the Pathogens Prioritization Framework by enabling proactive, preparedness-driven R&D, strengthening epidemic and pandemic preparedness, and advancing platform-based approaches across pathogen families.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) leads the CORC on paramyxoviruses. The Paramyxoviridae CORC was launched in a global meeting on 3rd March 2025. Following this, a total of 15 global consultations were convened by this CORC between May to November 2025 with participation of more than 70 global and national experts, in various relevant domains including prototype selection, basic research, disease models, laboratory studies, development of medical countermeasures, clinical, epidemiological and socio-behavioural studies and animal reservoirs. The scientific deliberations and in-depth literature review helped in firming up the R&D roadmap for paramyxoviruses.

This document describes the rationale for paramyxovirus prototype selection, available knowledge in various domains, key challenges and gaps, key needs and research priorities along with strategic short, medium and long-term goals.

You are invited to review the roadmap and provide any feedback by 15 May 2026 to cdintra.hq@icmr.gov.in – date after which the public consultation will be closed.
