Background
More people die each year from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) than from any other cause. Over three-quarters of heart disease and stroke-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Acute coronary syndrome is a significant contributor to this mortality as we as morbidity.
The WHO currently does not have any guidance on the management of stroke and thus the NCD department is embarking on a process to develop guidelines on the management of acute coronary syndrome as a technical product.
Objective
To provide project management support to the medical officer for cardiovascular diseases of the Management of NCD unit (MND) in the Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) department at WHO headquarters. In particular to deliver on advancing the guideline process as outlined below.
Deliverables
Under guidance of the medical officer CVDs:
- Outline a timeline and steps involved in the guideline process
- Support a technical specialist to prepare a scoping document including PICO questions (according to the GRADE methodology) on stroke
- Develop a guideline development group with input from WHO regional and HQ staff
- Manage declaration of interest (DOI) forms and conflict of interest (COI) forms in accordance with ethical policy of WHO
- Prepare and conduct a first web based GDG meeting (if required) to discuss the scoping document and prepare the planning proposal
- Support a technical specialist to prepare a planning proposal and submit for clearance to GRC
- Coordinate the comments on the planning proposal and ensure clearance by GRC
- Prepare reporting on the activities described above

Qualifications required
- Degree in health sciences and at least 5 years’ experience as a project manager in health
Experience required
- Experience in developing guidelines
- Experience in planning, budgeting, coordination and implementation of health projects , including in LMICs
Skills / Technical skills and knowledge
- Scientific and technical writing
- Knowledge of public health approach
- Communication skills
Language requirements
- English- Expert level
Place of assignment
All work under this contract will be home-based and carried out at the service provider’s usual place of residence.
Travel
No travel is expected.
Duration and Remuneration (exclusive of per diem, travel costs or other expenses)
The service provider will be remunerated at a rate that is commensurate with his/her experience based on the UN common salary scale.
The expected start date is 23 August 2021 (or as soon as reasonably possible after that).
