Purpose of the Agreement for Performance of Work (APW)

To support the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety (NFS) in scaling up the advocacy activities for the Global Nutrition Summit in December 2021 through meeting planning, document preparations, and coordination of partner engagement.   

Additionally, the contractor will support the development of tools and assistance to Member States on the integration of essential nutrition actions into primary health care delivery.

Background

The Tokyo 2021 Global Nutrition Summit (N4G) will position nutrition as an essential driver of sustainable development and secure new policy and financial commitments to act on all forms of malnutrition. N4G presents an historic opportunity to promote nutrition as a necessary component of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), including through scaling up comprehensive and integrated nutrition services, supporting the achievement the health-related Sustainable Development Goals, including UHC, and sustainable development more broadly. WHO has been asked by the Government of Japan (GoJ) to support the preparations of the 2021 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit and lead the work on Nutrition in Universal Health Coverage (UHC). UHC is central in the GPW13 and is at the heart of the health-related SDGs. Guidance for countries to ensure the delivery and mainstreaming of essential nutrition services is necessary to achieve the aspirations of N4G and the promises of UHC and the SDGs. NFS also coordinates and organizes the achievement of several specific deliverables that will contribute towards the N4G Summit objectives. 

Work to be performed

Under the supervision of the Head of the Food and Nutrition Actions in Health Systems (AHS) unit of the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety (NFS), the incumbent will support the work of the Department on scaling up the advocacy activities for the Global Nutrition Summit.

More specifically, tasks will consist of:

  • Convening meetings of key partner organizations engaged in the Summit preparations, including UNICEF, BMGF, SUN and ICAN.
  • Planning key advocacy events in preparation for the N4G Summit.
  • Developing advocacy materials on key commitments to be made at the Summit.
  • Developing materials on the financing of essential nutrition services.
  • Supporting WHO Member States in developing plans to integrate essential nutrition actions within primary health care delivery.
  • Assisting in the preparation of guidelines on the management of childhood obesity.

Specific requirements on qualification, experience, skills and languages

Qualifications required:

Essential: First-level university degree in public health, business or public administration or other social sciences from an accredited/recognized institute.

Desirable: Advanced university degree in public health, business or public administration or other social sciences from an accredited/recognized institute.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, especially in Global Health Nutrition. Demonstrated international experience and excellent project management skills.

Skills/Technical skills and knowledge:

Essential: Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills. Understanding and knowledge of the World Health Organization, the UN System, and familiarity with the global nutrition architecture, initiatives, and programmes, especially the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition (2016-2025) and WHO’s 13th General Programme of Work.

Desirable: Experience in organizing international, multi-stakeholder events; knowledge of WHO communication style; Competency in Microsoft applications.

Language requirements:

English essential. Working knowledge of another UN language desirable.

Start date: 20 September 2021

End date: 18 March 2022

Duty station: Off-site

Remuneration:

The remuneration of the contractor is based on experience according to the WHO pay scale. The APW will be paid on a part-time monthly (14 working days per month) basis for an amount of USD 3,500 /month for a total of 24’500 USD.
