The World Health Organization (WHO) invites all stakeholders to comment by 9 March 2023 on the latest drafts of the target regimen profiles (TRPs) for TB treatment and the target product profiles (TPPs) for tests for TB treatment monitoring and optimization, by means of online feedback forms.
Discovery, development and rapid uptake of new diagnostics and treatment are critical to reduce TB incidence and reach the global End TB targets. Researchers, developers of new technologies and funding agencies are interested to know what characteristics these new tools should have, to best serve the need of implementers. In response to this demand, in 2022, WHO started to coordinate an update of TRPs for TB treatment as well as the creation of TPPs for tests for TB treatment monitoring and optimization. These documents will specify the intended use, target populations and desired characteristics of new TB treatments and tests.
Drafts of the TPPs and the TRPs have been developed after a broad consultation with national TB programmes, technical agencies, other non-governmental organisations, academia and research institutions, regulatory agencies, test developers and manufacturers, civil society organisations and donors. Publication of the two documents is planned for June 2023.
