Open call for public comments on the draft “WHO aircraft disinsection methods and procedures (Second edition)”

Deadline: 15 May 2023

Call for proposals

Background

The first edition of the guidance document entitled “WHO aircraft disinsection methods and procedures” was published in 2021.

Mosquitoes act as vectors of pathogens that cause a number of major diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika virus disease and yellow fever. Mosquitoes and other insect vectors may be carried on passenger and cargo aircraft to places served by aircraft. Therefore, aircraft are disinsected to protect countries from the introduction of potential disease vectors and to help prevent the spread of pathogens borne by mosquitoes and other vectors. Countries assess the requirements for disinsection of arriving aircraft, taking into consideration risks of introduction of new insect vectors to locations in which they were not previously present.

The WHO Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases plans to revise and update the first edition and has drafted a revised (second) edition. The Department now solicits technical comments, suggestions and views from all interested parties and stakeholders including civil society and public on the second edition of the guidance document. The document can be freely downloaded from here.
