Following adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/72/271, WHO hosted on 12-13 April the 25th Meeting of the UNRSC.
The meeting, which featured dignitaries such as the Minister of Transport of Luxembourg and Parliamentarians from a number of countries, allowed for more in-depth discussion on next steps in planning several of these initiatives, such as the high-level conference and the global road safety week. It also served as the occasion to launch the UN Road Safety Trust Fund.
Participants emphasized the importance of these activities in generating momentum and support for a new SDG target on preventing road traffic deaths and injuries that is in line with the 2030 end date of the SDGs.
At the end of the meeting, BRAKE the Road Safety Charity, CITA International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee, and the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport were accepted as new members of the UNRSC.
