On the first day, the discussions focused on implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution 72/271 adopted in April 2018, including planning of the Third Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to be held in Sweden in February 2020 and the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week on "Leadership for Road Safety" to be hosted worldwide in May 2019. Participants also discussed the concrete guidance and appropriate resources required to achieve the voluntary global performance targets for road safety agreed upon in November 2017. An update was also provided on latest developments regarding the UN Road Safety Trust Fund.
On the second day, the various project groups convened and reflected on appropriate steps past 2018, and the approaching 2020 end date for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and SDG target 3.6. As the meeting closed, FIRE AID, a UK charity supporting global initiatives to improve post-crash care, was welcomed as a new UNRSC member.
Preparations for the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week will be the focus of collective efforts of UNRSC members in the coming months, with a view to generating momentum around the theme of leadership and the Week's activities towards the Third Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.
