On 10-11 April 2019, over 90 members of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC), representing governments, international organizations, NGOs and other groups convened in Chania, Crete, Greece to discuss next strategic steps in global road safety.

On the first day, the seven project groups convened to discuss progress in implementing their work plans and plan their future activities and reported back to plenary on the second day. On the second day, the plenary session was officially opened by Dr E. Krug while Mr J. Todt, Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Road Safety provided opening remarks. Topics of discussions included progress made in planning the Third Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, options to evaluate the Decade of Action for Road Safety and tools available to support the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week. Progress made in the development of guidance tool to support the implementation of the 12 road safety targets agreed upon in November 2017 and their related indicators were also mentioned. Finally, a debrief on the process to develop the upcoming UN Secretary General report on progress made in the attainment of the objectives of the Decade of Action was provided.

Four new members were welcomed to the UNRSC: Highways England, Abertis Foundation, Milken Institute School of Public Health (George Washington University) and the International Road Victims’ Partnership.
