Meeting of technical experts on public health responses to cannabis use

On 18-20 December 2019, WHO is hosting a to review the latest available information on the public health dimensions of cannabis use and cannabis use disorders. 

This meeting of technical experts, including members of the WHO expert panel on drug dependence and alcohol problems,  is organized by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Use in collaboration with other relevant WHO programmes  in follow up to a similar scientific expert meeting held in 2015 which resulted in the WHO publication “The health and social effects of nonmedical cannabis use (WHO, 2016).

The meeting  of technical experts on public health responses to public health risks associated with cannabis use and cannabis use disorders is being convened with the aim of updating and revising the above-mentioned publication to reflect the recent developments and accumulated evidence on appropriate public health responses to health risks associated with cannabis use.  The meeting is being organized in conjunction with another meeting of technical experts on priority areas for strengthening implementation of the “Global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol”.
