Meeting Postponement: Preparing Together: Keeping the World Safe, Protecting Economies, Connecting Nations

24 – 26 March 2020
Marrakesh, Morocco

A High-Level Meeting on Diplomacy for Health Security and Emergency Preparedness

After careful consideration, the Director-General of WHO, in consultation with the co-hosts – the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Rwanda and the World Bank – has decided to postpone the High-Level Meeting on Diplomacy for Health Security and Emergency Preparedness. The meeting was initially scheduled for 24-26 March 2020 in Marrakesh, Morocco, and has been postponed to a later date in 2020.

Currently, countries are focused on implementing preparedness and response measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, which may impact the availability of high-level participation in this meeting. Preparedness, readiness and response to health emergencies require a concerted, global, whole-of-society approach, as well as enhanced coordination and collaboration between Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Health and beyond. It also requires the active participation and support of all stakeholders including regional and global partners and United Nations agencies.

The Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Rwanda, WHO and the World Bank are fully engaged in the efforts to improve health security and emergency preparedness across nations, regions and the world, remain fully committed to holding the meeting later this year, and look forward to your participation.
