On 26 February 2021, WHO launched the Rehabilitation Competency Framework (RCF). Competency frameworks are a key mechanism for ensuring the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the workforce align with the needs of populations and are a critical tool in workforce strengthening. The RCF is an important resource for the rehabilitation community and marks a key milestone in the efforts to address the profound rehabilitation workforce challenges Member States face. It will be foundational to much of our future work in this field.
The launch event convened some of the world’s leading health workforce experts, along with members of the international team that supported the development the RCF, to deliver a rich agenda. Participants were able to gain an understanding of the role and potential of the RCF in addressing workforce challenges faced in rehabilitation, and learned how it can be used in real world scenarios to bring us closer to the vision of Rehabilitation 2030: That everyone who needs rehabilitation has access to timely, quality services.
