First meeting of the WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All

The meeting took place virtually from 15:30 to 17:30 CET.

The inaugural meeting (virtual) brought together Council Members and WHO Director-General Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss the Council’s overall mission, expected outputs and ways of working in order to provide bold, innovative and practical advice to WHO to enable greater, long-term and more effective investment for health.

The Council Members agreed that the purpose of the Council is to:

  • Develop a new narrative that makes health for all the central goal of public policies on innovation, industry, employment, environment and more.
  • Shape a new approach to the global economy, with the objective of building societies that are healthy, inclusive, equitable and sustainable, and
  • Identify practices from countries and communities around the world, as the basis for actionable recommendations.

 The Council agreed on

  • Developing and issuing its Manifesto
  • Initiating work in four key areas: addressing innovation, finance, value and measurement, and capacity, towards health for all.
